Babyshambles Delivery

Pete Docherty seems to be the musical equivalent of a cockroach. I don't even think a nuclear war could unsettle him. He's taken more drugs than Howard Marks and Jimi Hendrix combined, has been in and court more times than I'd like to think about and yet still manages to turn up in the recording studio every now and then.

So... here is Babyshambles new song, Delivery. To be honest, most of their songs have failed to impress me, even their biggest hit Killamangiro passed me by. Is this a turn around for the London band?

The first thing I noticed about the song - it sounds like something the Kinks might have written. It's lively, retro and packs a punch. However, a funky guitar riff doth not a good song make, and the song is massively let down by Docherty's lyrics and vocals... To be honest it just sounds like he can't be arsed anymore.

Although it is the trendy thing to berate Pete and his band at the moment, this song unfortunately gives just cause to do so. The lyrics are amateurish and Docherty's voice seems to have lost its edge, which doesn't really surprise me in the slightest.

This song seems to be riding high in the charts at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was down to Babyshambles infamy rather than the actual quality of the song itself. Avoid.

What next?More by Babyshambles? More reviews? More indie, or rock?
