Review: Basement Jaxx - Hush Boy10 September, 2006 — Stuart Brown

Basement Jaxx are back with their first single from album Crazy Itch Radio - Hush Boy is another slice of mixed-up electronica, featuring Vula Malinga (of 'Oh My Gosh' fame) on the lyrics. But have they still got the funk?

Vula's lyrics on Oh My Gosh were expertly performed and produced - neat, punchy, and incredibly catchy - but I can't help but feel Hush Boy is like a poor mans version. The lyrics have some of the same qualities, sure - but they're nowhere near as catchy, or as likeable.

I think the song itself is a little overworked - too many elements competing for the same auditory space. Perhaps the remixes will come out better in the long run, but this single is neither here nor there as far as the clubs & home listening is concerned.

Slightly undercooked offering from the usually fresh BJ.
