Review: Britney Spears - Gimme More14 November, 2007 — Kate Ingham

Britney Spears Gimme More

I was always told to never kick a person when they're down - but Britney Spears isn't really helping herself out here by releasing this incredibly mediocre single. Yes, I do feel sorry for the girl - she's gone from sparkly pop strumpet to social services worst nightmare in the space of eight years, but this is no excuse for implementing the worst comeback since Michael Jackson.

My major objection to this song is that the lyrics are rubbish. The majority of the song involves Britney nasally intoning the words "gimme gimme more" combined with some incredibly strange vocoder effects. Okay, the girl isn't Shakespeare - but this just seems that it was dashed-off in five minutes.

This song is filler. It's the kind of song an artist would stick halfway through the album in order to kill a few minutes. It's not what you'd release as a single, let alone a comeback one.

Perhaps I've overlooked something and this is a biting piece of satire about the media industry and Britney is having a big laugh at us all. I pretty much doubt it though. Do not buy.

Overall

What next?More by Britney Spears? More reviews? More pop?
