Dave Spoon (feat. Lisa Maffia) - Bad Girl (At Night)

Despite an unfeasibly brackety name, this Dave Spoon's done rather well for himself, landing himself a top 40 hit. He's got an impressive back catalogue of big name remixes, but how does this original effort fare?

I was quite impressed, in all honesty. With some (quite frankly) dire offerings in the world of electro house, when the beat kicked in I was a little dubious. But this is quite a nice - if somewhat clichéd - example of electro house. It covers all the synthy-sounding requirements, is structured nicely, and boasts the name of Lisa Maffia (Of So Solid Crew fame) to give it a boost in publicity - which evidently worked.

The song itself isn't particularly noteworthy - it's simply Maffia asserting that she's a 'bad girl', repeat, fade. But - and this is distinctive for the current crop of dance music - it completely avoids banality in any sense. It's actually listenable.

Overall

What next?More by Dave Spoon? More reviews? More electro, or house?
