I Was A Cubscout - Our Smallest Adventures

Wow, the video for this is weird - like some trippy neon children's drawing. Quite creative, in fact. It strikes me that the song itself is somewhat less interesting - typical emo-esque blend of lyrics with an inoffensive soft rock / synth-pop backdrop.

It's hard to fault anything major, and the song writing and execution is admirable. It's a pleasant enough song, but the more I listen to it the more the little things annoy me - the derivative sound, twee lyrics, and the emo leanings.

It's not particularly bland, nor is it particularly dynamic. It's worse than middle-of-the-road - it's alternative by design, but lacks an edge. Simply put: too pop for emo, too emo for pop.

Overall

What next?More by I Was A Cub Scout? More reviews? More synthpop, or emo, or pop?
