Madness - NW5

Well here we go.. A couple of weeks into 2008 and we're already seeing old bands trying to make a comeback.

For those under the age of 25, Madness used to be a ska-pop band in the 1980s who sang about driving cars, Michael Caine and sadistic teachers. Their lead singer now sells fish fingers on the telly.

Madness haven't exactly had the best of luck with comebacks in the past. Nobody really remembers Johnny the Horse, or at least they pretend not to. I therefore braced myself for the worst when listening to this song.

However, it actually wasn't that bad. Sure, it had all the elements of a quintessential Madness track - the saxophone, the piano loop, the violins and the typical Laaaaaahndun lyrics, but it is all nicely done, tightly produced and leaves you with a big smile on your face.

Sure, this song won't change your life, but you'll be bobbing along merrily for the whole four minutes.

Overall

What next?More by Madness? More reviews? More pop, or ska?
