Maroon 5 It Won't Be Soon Before Long

Maroon 5 have always been a band that have passed me by. I was impressed by early single "Harder to breathe" and thought that their future offerings would have that similar Black Crowes vibe to them but ended up being quite disappointed. Previous single "Makes Me Wonder" was bland and samey, and I felt equally pessimistic about listening to this.

"Wake Up Call" is about a guy catching his girlfriend with another man and is quite spicey by Maroon 5 standards - with lyrics about getting revenge and shooting the other man down in cold blood. The chorus is catchy and I was still humming along to it five minutes later - which considering I have a brain like a goldfish at the best of times is fairly impressive.

I'm still not convinced that Maroon 5 are the hard-men of pop though. Although the lyrics are dark, Adam Levine's poppy vocals aren't convincing and I ended up feeling a little confused at the end of the song. I couldn't imagine Maroon 5 ramraiding a teddy bear's picnic let alone imagining getting revenge on a cheating partner.

To conclude, although this song is catchy in parts, the rest of the song plods along a bit. Must try harder next time guys.

Overall

What next?More by Maroon 5? More reviews? More pop, or funk, or rock?
