Review: The Automatic - Raoul12 January, 2007 — Hazel Gardner

Label: B-Unique; Released: 8th Jan 2007

I've been rapidly going off The Automatic; after Monster was released, nothing has really grabbed my attention. With its thumping introduction and ultra-catchy, melodic chorus Raoul made me want to dance around the room like an idiot.

This is of course, a re-release, but it is certainly set to make a bigger impression second time around due to the Welsh band's growth in popularity.

The only element for criticism is the shouty backing vocals by Alex Pennie, which unfortunately appear in every song. On the positive side, they give the band a distinctive sound, but I have always found them unbearable. It's all well and good now, but give it one more album and the screechiness will wear very thin.

That aside, this really is a killer pop-rock song.

What next?More by The Automatic? More reviews? More pop, or indie?
