Review: The Hoosiers - Goodbye Mr. A12 November, 2007 — Kate Ingham

The Hoosiers Goodbye Mr. A

Okay I'll admit it - The Hoosiers previous falsetto-laden song Worried about Ray annoyed the hell out of me, possibly because it seemed to be played on the radio all the flipping time. Will their new single have the same effect?

So first of all, who is Mr. A? Mr. A was a comic book Superhero who was seen as very logical, too smart for his own good and only saw things in black and white. Needless to say, The Hoosiers don't like him too much. The good thing is, you don't need to know who exactly Mr. A is to enjoy the song, although it is extremely interesting to see where The Hoosiers draw their ideas from - it's refreshing to hear a band who don't just sing about love and/or going out on a Saturday night and getting trollied.

One thing that does niggle me about this song - it sounds very similar to ELO's Mr Blue Sky. To me it seems that they changed the music just enough to prevent them getting sued. Apart from that though, it's a very clever song with excellent vocals from Irwin Sparkes and it will be interesting to see what the band sing about next. All hail The Hoosiers, Kings of the geeks.

Overall

What next?More by The Hoosiers? More reviews? More pop, or rock?
